A warm welcome awaits...
Located on a busy main street, our pub offers a warm and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy—including well-behaved dogs. Inside, you’ll find a cosy snug alongside a larger bar area, complete with two traditional woodburning stoves—perfect for relaxing with a drink. To the rear, our furnished conservatory provides additional seating and features a striking wall mural, with a side entrance leading out to the smoking area, which also includes an additional log burner and a dart board. We also show live Sky Sports in the conservatory. Outside, there is additional seating along with a historic mural celebrating the pub, local people, and Bridgnorth.
The bar areas have recently been refurbished to enhance comfort while retaining their character and charm. Conveniently situated close to the main town bus stop on Old Smithfield and within walking distance of the high street, we’re easy to find and always ready to welcome you in—with dogs very welcome throughout the pub.

A short story about our history...
The Bell & Talbot is a historic pub in Bridgnorth, first licensed in 1831 as The Bell Inn on Salop Street, an important route through the town. It was renamed in 1844 to include “Talbot,” a nod to the influential Talbot family. In the 19th century, the pub was more than just a place to drink—it had its own brewhouse and produced beer on site until around 1920, while also serving as a meeting place for traders, locals, and visitors. Reflecting the flexible nature of pubs at the time, it even operated briefly as a wet fish shop alongside its main trade.

Origins and Early Years
Building, Change and Present Day
The present building dates from the early 19th century and is now Grade II listed, with traditional features including a decorative panel showing a bell flanked by talbot dogs. Over the years, the pub passed through brewery ownership—most notably in the 20th century—before returning to independent status as a free house. Despite changes in ownership and the decline of on-site brewing, the Bell & Talbot has remained a constant in the town, adapting to modern tastes while preserving its historic character as a welcoming social hub at the heart of Bridgnorth.
